Iconic soul/funk band The Brand New Heavies – Andrew Levy, Jan Kincaid and Simon Bartholomew – has announced that Dawn Joseph has joined the band on a full-time basis as their lead vocalist.
Dawn worked with The Brand New Heavies’ on their latest record Forward, which was released in May, taking on vocal duties and co-writing with the band. She has performed with the band across the world in support of the record. Her soulful vocals and eye-catching style are a perfect fit making her a formidable force on stage.
Earlier this year Blues & Soul magazine raved about Dawn’s performance with the band at London’s KOKO saying, “Dawn Joseph took to the stage and please don’t tell the chaps…kinda stole the show”. They continued, “Such was her demeanour, vigour, power, finesse, show-women-ship and vocal dexterity…she left all who questioned if they would get their money’s worth this evening, thoroughly satisfied by her tasty fare.”
Dawn hails from Jersey and comes from a musical family with her father a working singer and bass player in his own band. Having worked as a session musician, bass player and guitarist, as well as a backing singer, Dawn has worked with artists such as Phil Collins, Michael McDonald, Craig David, Cee-Lo Green and Spandau Ballet. In 2012 Heavies’ member Jan Kincaid contacted Dawn about working on Forward and in the studio everything clicked into place.
The Brand New Heavies are currently in the studio working on their follow-up to Forward. The new album is expected to be released early 2014.
